IntroductionMulti-Client Reports for Petroleum Exploration GeologistsThe reports previewed on this site are Multi-Client studies which address a variety of issues relevant to the petroleum geology of the Middle East, with particular emphasis on Iraq. The reports provide both data and interpretations, and are primarily based on new petrographic and organic geochemical analyses of core, cuttings and outcrop samples from the University of Reading Middle East Archive. The reports are written primarily for use by Oil Company Exploration Geologists to provide a thorough understanding of the petroleum geology, hydrocarbon habitat and play concepts, backed up by hard data. See Reports Index for full details of the reports. The University of Reading Middle East ArchiveThe Middle East Archive contains well and outcrop samples and thin sections which were donated to the University of Reading by the Iraq Petroleum Company. The collection includes samples from Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, Qatar, UAE, Oman and Yemen.
HistoryWork on this series of reports began in 1984 with an evaluation of source rock potential based on new geochemical analysis of samples from 38 wells throughout the region. Subsequent reports have covered the facies and stratigraphy of Iraq and Syria, oil to source biomarker correlations for Iraq, and an overview and digital well data base for Iraq. To date, nine reports have been completed. The early reports were presented in paper copy only. The later studies additionally provide selected data in digital format and we are currently transferring much more data to a digital format (See PDF Report Library). Organisations involvedFive organisations have been involved in producing the reports. These are Petroleum Geological Analysis Limited, Quantock Geological Services, Saker Geological Services, University of Reading and Petra-Chem Ltd. See Companies for details.
